Video Authentication & Verification - Recording Systems Issues or Signs of Tampering?

This presentation will give a brief introduction to the challenges we face when authenticating video evidence in the context of underlying technical issues of the recording environment such as frame drops, recording gaps, or varying frame rates. What conclusions are possible under the assumption of a potentially unreliable recording environment, can we identify the cause for technical issues and how can we establish a baseline of the characteristics (pattern or random behaviour)? What legal evidence implications can result from a recording environment that is not robust, predictable, or reliable?
